'The days are bright and filled with pain. Enclose me in your gentle rain', sang Jim Morrison in The Crystal Ship. A desperate cry for help. For redemption.
According to Jewish mysticism in the Kabbalah, God creates the world in a continuous process through the outpouring (Emanation) of his ten recognizable qualities, the so-called sephiroth (Kether, Chochmah, Binah, Chesed, Gevurah, Tifereth, Netzach, Hod, Yesod , Malkuth). God himself remains unknown and unknowable, but reveals himself to us in the merciful rain that continually nourishes and sustains his creation.
The work series Gentile rain is broadly about this redemption and liberation. However, salvation does not have to come from God; there are many other forms of enlightenment and salvation. Religion and church institutions do not have a monopoly on salvation; Gentile rain (i.e. pagan rain) is as beneficial as Gentle rain.
